NAIROBI'S RAINY DAYS- BEAUTY IN MAYHEM

Our beloved city has days we love to hate and those we just can't hate in equal measure. I personally have a love hate relationship with this city. See, there are days you'll be labelled a terrorist for just deciding to leave the comfort of your bed on a cold Sunday morning and photograph the sunrise from a public viewpoint as happened to my friends (Joe and Trevor) and then there are days you get lucky, probably because no cop is willing to stand in the rain. Yesterday was one of those lucky days.I've been dubbed crazy severally but I don't mind it, I actually like it, labels are nice! Sometimes you just have to accept the label and do your thing. I was heading home last night as it was raining, heavily, mother nature probably keen on keeping protestors away from the city... Two thoughts crossed my mind, go have coffee as I waited for the rain and traffic to abate or kill time shooting in the rain. The former seemed like the best idea, even to you reading this, just admit it...The latter won and I descended on Kimathi Street where "terror" had struck from the heavens, armed to the teeth with my weapon of choice, ready to shoot everything and anyone in my path....What follows is a selection of what I shot, who I shot and lastly, how I shot it. One thing I absolutely love and still struggle to find answers to is the correlation among several things: Traffic, fare hikes and crazy driving. Immediately the heavens open up in Nairobi, expect to pay more to get home, sit in traffic for an extra hour or two and if you're driving, that's the day you see the most bizarre things on our roads. Oh wait, how can I forget the hustling spirit of those who always have umbrellas for sale on standby! The real life savers those guys!   Sometimes, if you stop to observe how people go on about their lives, you'll realise that there are so many contrasting situations. Case example(s):Some just simply accept their fate and carry on as usual, in no hurry.  THE TECHNICALSince I've been asked how I shot this I'll share some technicalities:The above image set the settings for the rest.Shutter: 1/200- To help capture fast motion since I knew most people would be in a hurry and I wanted to shoot quickly. Anything less would have meant that my shots would have been blurryAperture: F2.8- Being night time meant that I had to take advantage of the widest aperture possible to be able to get more light in through the camera.Iso 4000- a bit high.... but I had little time to think of closing it down as I was in a hurry. Most images are noisy but I wasn't too keen on the technical because I wanted to capture more moments.Lens: 16-35mm- Most of these were shot at 16mm to help me get most of the action in frame and also, I love shooting wide 😃PRO TIP- An umbrella is your best friend at these times. Unless you have a waterproof camera or water house casing. P.S- Dear Police, No one was harmed from the shooting of these images.I hope the next time you're caught up in rain, this post will remind you to at least see the beautiful side of the mayhem. :)I love Nairobi!
