Documentation of The Born Free Foundation’s work across Kenya and Ethiopia ranging from Twiga scouts patrolling in Meru National Park, the eye cow project, tree planting and community classes with wildlife clubs for children in Meru, the building of a predator proof boma in Amboseli and Ethiopia’s Ensessa Kotteh, a 190-acre sanctuary in Ethiopia that provides a safe haven for  wildlife orphaned or confiscated from illegal trade or ownership.

ETHIOPIA

Ensessa Kotteh, animal footprint’ in Amharic, is a 190-acre sanctuary in Ethiopia, which houses wild animals in need – orphaned or confiscated from illegal pet trade or ownership. Each animal at Ensessa Kotteh is carefully assessed to see whether full rehabilitation and release back to the wild is feasible. Those that cannot be released are provided with lifetime care. The sanctuary is home to species such as lions, cheetah, hyenas, tortoise and endemic species such as Gelada monkeys.
